    Description

LYCOMING COUNTY - six Assault & battery documents, 1870-1872! Pennsylvania
    assault & battery
    in Lycoming Co., Pa.
This is a group of 6 court documents concerning cases of assault and battery in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, during the 1800s. They each measure 7x8.5 inches in size, and are generally in very good condition. They are indictment forms and are all dated either 1870 or 1872, with each being completed in handwritten ink with the details of the case they involve.
Each is shown in the accompanying photos
    .
    They say, in part:
The Grand Inquest of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania,
Inquiring in and for the body of the County of Lycoming . . . do present: That ___________ late of said county, _______ on the _____ day of _______ in the year one thousand eight hundred and _________ . . . within the jurisdiction of this court, with force and arms, in and upon one ______________ in the peace of God and of the said Commonwealth then and there being, did make an assault and ______ the said ________________ did beat, wound and ill-treat, and other wrongs to ______ the said ______________ then and there did, to the great damage of the said _______________ contrary to the form of the statute in such case and made and provided, and against the peace and dignity of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
The documents are signed by witnesses for the state in each case, and by the District Attorney. The D.A. signatures are unclear, but look like "O.H. Reighard" and "Gary Hinman"?
    The assaults charged were by:
George Long, a yeoman, on James M. Miller.
Daniel McLeary, yeoman, and H(?) McLeary, matron, on Joseph Lowe.
Louis Reeder, yeoman, on Charles Bush.
Thomas Johnson, yeoman, on David Gordon.
Charlotte Wollien(?), a matron, on H. R. Hutchinson.
Ross Hutchinson, yeoman, on Charlotte Wollien.
Note that one case apparently involves a married couple jointly charged with assault. And the final two documents show that both parties (a man and woman) were both charged in an apparent fight, on July 19, 1870.
